Liberty Lands gives the neighborhood a true community gathering space, with gardens, playgrounds, trees, a performance stage, and room for neighborhood events. The Piazza and nearby public spaces add even more places to meet friends, shop, and spend time outside.

Shopping & Local Character
Independent shops, vintage stores, galleries, cafés, and converted industrial buildings give Northern Liberties its distinctive feel. Much of the neighborhood’s character comes from the mix of old warehouses and factories that have been transformed into apartments, restaurants, studios, and businesses.

From Factories and Breweries to a New Neighborhood.
Northern Liberties was once one of Philadelphia’s major industrial districts, filled with factories, mills, workshops, and breweries. German immigrants played an especially important role in the neighborhood’s brewing history, and by 1879 eighteen breweries were operating in the area. As industry declined, artists and new residents began moving into former industrial spaces, helping reshape Northern Liberties into the creative residential neighborhood it is today.
