The heart of the city is right outside your door.
Chinatown and Market East bring together some of Philadelphia’s most vibrant dining, shopping, culture, and entertainment. From the flavors of Chinatown and the bustling aisles of Reading Terminal Market to Fashion District Philadelphia and the energy of Market Street, this is Center City living at its most connected and convenient.
WHY WE LOVE IT
A world of flavor.
Chinatown is one of Philadelphia’s most diverse dining destinations, with restaurants, bakeries, markets, and shops representing Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian, Burmese, and Taiwanese cultures. Whether you're grabbing a quick meal or exploring somewhere new, there is always something different around the corner.
Everything you need, steps away.
Market East puts some of Center City’s best shopping within easy reach. Browse Fashion District Philadelphia, explore neighborhood shops and specialty markets, or head to Reading Terminal Market for fresh food, local vendors, prepared meals, and everyday essentials.
Center City, without the commute.
Living in Chinatown and Market East means being surrounded by the best of Philadelphia. Jefferson Station connects residents to SEPTA Regional Rail and the Market-Frankford Line, while major destinations throughout Center City are easily accessible on foot, by bike, or by public transportation.

A Neighborhood That Fought to Stay.
Philadelphia’s Chinatown grew around Chinese-owned businesses near Race Street in the late 19th century and became a lasting center of Asian American life in the city. Over generations, residents and community organizations repeatedly fought projects that threatened the neighborhood, including highway construction, a federal prison, stadium proposals, and casino development. Today, the Friendship Gate at 10th and Arch remains one of Chinatown’s most recognizable symbols.

APM Recommends:
Sang Kee Peking Duck House
Order the roast duck — it’s the classic choice here — and add a noodle soup or a few dishes to share. Sang Kee is an especially good introduction to Chinatown because it combines longtime neighborhood history with the kind of casual, satisfying meal that keeps people coming back.
