A Neighborhood Named for the River.
Fishtown’s name comes directly from the Delaware River.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the area became a center of commercial shad fishing, with generations of local families earning their living from the seasonal runs of fish traveling up the river.
That history still shows up throughout the neighborhood today in the fish-shaped signsfound on homes and businesses.
